Want your Windows Xp to boot Faster ?

Here are the following steps that can help your winxp to boot faster.

  1. Open notepad.exe, type “del c:\windows\prefetch\ntosboot-*.* /q” (without the quotes) & save as “ntosboot.bat” in c:\
  2. From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “gpedit.msc”.
  3. Double click “Windows Settings” under “Computer Configuration” and double click again on “Shutdown” in the right window.
  4. In the new window, click “add”, “Browse”, locate your “ntosboot.bat” file & click “Open”.
  5. Click “OK”, “Apply” & “OK” once again to exit.
  6. From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “devmgmt.msc”.
  7. Double click on “IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers”
  8. Right click on “Primary IDE Channel” and select “Properties”.
  9. Select the “Advanced Settings” tab then on the device or 1 that doesn’t have ‘device type’ greyed out select ‘none’ instead of ‘autodetect’ & click “OK”.
  10. Right click on “Secondary IDE channel”, select “Properties” and repeat step 9.
  11. Reboot your computer.

That’s it.  Now your computer will boot faster than usual.

windows-login-screenSometimes it happens that your Windows XP login screen doesn’t come and the system boot’s but doesn’t enter the desktop. There might be some cases when the Windows XP login screen doesn’t come and the system boot’s but doesn’t enter the desktop.

What’s the fault ?

The possible reason is a corrupt kernel32.dll.

How to fix this error?

  • Boot with the XP CD-ROM.
  • Select Repair windows option (and not the install windows option, this will reinstall the windows and delete the C:/ data).

A DOS window will come, type these commands carefully…
cd c:/windows/system32 (hit enter)

ren kernel32.dll kernel32.old

cd d:/i386 (hit enter – here d: is CD-ROM Drive)

expand kernel32.dl_ c:/windows/system32 (hit enter – use the underscore with ‘dl_’)
now the message comes ’1 file expanded’
that it, now you can boot the windows without CD, and the logon screen will come. :)
