I have seen many people using pendrives or USB drives, suffering from viruses in their pendrives. One of the most poplular is AUTORUN.INF.

What is autorun.inf ?

AUTORUN.INF Viruses are virus that uses the Autorun feature of Windows to spread itself on computers. This virus makes a copy of the autorun.inf file to the root or main directory of all the drives on your PC, internal and / or external disks, to make the virus runs every time the external disks like pendrives or USB drives were inserted or every time you double-click the drives through the Windows Explorer.

How to remove or block autorun.inf virus ?

For this purpose, you can download a software called “USB Disk Security”. This will automatically detecc virus whenever you insert pendrive and more importantly it will remove your virus as well.

Preventing AUTORUN.INF virus manually

The following are just generic instructions and some of the steps might not be applicable to some virus infections that uses autorun.inf.

The method is to create an AUTORUN.INF folder on the root directories (main directory usually represented by backslash symbol \ ) . You can do this via Windows Explorer or Command Prompt but I will recommend the method via Command Prompt.

• To run command prompt, click Start then Run or press the key combination: Winkey + R

• Type CMD then press enter. This will open the black and white environment.

• On the prompt, type MD C:\AUTORUN.INF then press enter key.

• Repeat this procedure to other hard drives and USB drives. Just replace the C letter from the command with the appropriate drive letter of each storage device.

I have heard many peoples suffering from autorun.inf virus that is the major problem of the windows xp users

Anyway, As we know Our Antivirus (Basically, Avira, Avast, AVG, etc), Only detects Virus i.e autorun.inf whenever you insert your removable disk (Pen Drives). But our AntiVirus  can’t disinfect it nor delete it.

Hmm, the autorun.inf is hidden and it can’t be remove or disinfected by Anti virus.

I have a Funny tutorial for you all through which you all can get Rid from this Virus without any Antivirus:

1. Open Notepad

2. Do not write anything in it.

3. Save as (any where in PC i.e Desktop) with name “autorun.inf”

4. Copy and paste in your “Pen Drives”

5. Remove your drive then insert again, it will open normally
