If you want to use your system at much faster speed, you can now do it by increasing its virtual memory.

With this trick, you can enhance your system’s speed and can use it at much faster speed. I , at Devilslab, am going to tell you the trick.

Here are the steps!!

Hold down the ‘Windows‘ Key and Press the ‘Pause/Break’ button at the top right of your keyboard. Another way is Right-Clicking ‘My Computer’ and then Select ‘Properties’.
Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab.
Under ‘Performance’, click ‘Settings’.
Then click the ‘Advanced’ tab on the button that pops up.
Under ‘Virtual Memory‘ at the bottom, click ‘Change’.
Click the ‘Custom Size’ button.
For the initial size (depending on your HD space), type in anywhere from 1000-1500 (although I use 4000), and for the Maximum size type in anywhere from 2000-2500 (although I use 6000).
Click ‘Set’, and then exit out of all of the windows.
Finally, Restart your computer.
You now have a faster computer and 1-2GB of Virtual RAM..!

Here is the simple trick through which you can access saved passwords.

HOW TO ACCESS REGISTRY ??

Goto Start Menu.
Click on Run.
Type “regedit” (without quotes) in the Run Box .After that this Windows Opens . Now you are ready to see that.

LOCATIONS OF SAVED PASSWORDS !

FOR INTERNET EXPLORER 4.00 – 6.00

The passwords are stored in a secret location in the Registry known as the “Protected Storage“.

The base key of the Protected Storage is located under the following key:

“HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider“.

You can browse the above key in the Registry Editor (RegEdit), but you won’t be able to watch the passwords, because they are encrypted.

Also, this key cannot easily moved from one computer to another, like you do with regular Registry keys.

FOR INTERNET EXPLORER 7.00 – 8.00
The new versions of Internet Explorer stores the passwords in 2 different locations.

AutoComplete passwords are stored in the Registry under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\Storage2.

HTTP Authentication passwords are stored in the Credentials file under

Documents and Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Credentials

, together with login passwords of LAN computers and other passwords.

FIREFOX

The passwords are stored in one of the following filenames: signons.txt, signons2.txt, and signons3.txt (depends on Firefox version)

These password files are located inside the profile folder of Firefox, in

[Windows Profile]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[Profile Name]

Also, key3.db, located in the same folder, is used for encryption/decription of the passwords.

GOOGLE CHROME WEB BROWSER

The passwords are stored in

[Windows Profile]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Web Data

(This filename is SQLite database which contains encrypted passwords and other stuff)

OPERA

The passwords are stored in wand.dat filename, located under
[Windows Profile]\Application Data\Opera\Opera\profile

There are some more application whose password storage you probably want to know, like Outlook Express, Outlook 98/2000, Windows Live Mail, ThunderBird, Google Talk, Google Desktop, Windows Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, ICQ Lite, Digsby, PaltalkScene. Wait for it !! I will provide it on my next post.

Syntax Search Tricks
Using a special syntax is a way to tell Google that you want to restrict your searches to certain elements or characteristics of Web pages. Google has a fairly complete list of its syntax elements at

Here are some advanced operators that can help narrow down your search results.

Intitle: at the beginning of a query word or phrase (intitle:”Three Blind Mice”) restricts your search results to just the titles of Web pages.

Intext: does the opposite of intitle:, searching only the body text, ignoring titles, links, and so forth. Intext: is perfect when what you’re searching for might commonly appear in URLs. If you’re looking for the term HTML, for example, and you don’t want to get results such as

www.mysite.com/index.html

, you can enter intext:html.

Swiss Army Google

Google has a number of services that can help you accomplish tasks you may never have thought to use Google for. For example, the new calculator feature

Suppose you want to contact someone and don’t have his phone number handy. Google can help you with that, too. Just enter a name, city, and state. (The city is optional, but you must enter a state.) How to create one-click ‘Shutdown’ and ‘Reboot’ Shortcut?

This is really very easy task to perform. Making “Shutdown” and “Reboot” shortcuts on desktop is really very easy and user-friendly.

Here are the steps to create Shortcuts.

First, create a shortcut on your desktop by right-clicking on the desktop, choosing New, and then choosing Shortcut.
Create Shortcut Wizard appears. In the box asking for the location of the shortcut, type shutdown.
After you create the shortcut, double-clicking on it will shut down your PC.

But you can do much more with a shutdown shortcut than merely shut down your PC. You can add any combination of several switches to do extra duty, like this:

shutdown -r -t 01 -c “Rebooting your PC”

Double-clicking on that shortcut will reboot your PC after a one-second delay and display the message “Rebooting your PC.” The shutdown command includes a variety of switches you can use to customize it. Table 1-3 lists all of them and describes their use.

I use this technique to create two shutdown shortcuts on my desktop—one for turning off my Windows, and one for rebooting. Here are the ones I use:

shutdown -s -t 03 -c “Bye Bye Shekhar!”
shutdown -r -t 03 -c “Ill be back Shekhar !”

Switch – What it basically do ?

-s
Shuts down the PC.

-l
Logs off the current user.

-t nn
Indicates the duration of delay, in seconds, before performing the action.

-c “messagetext”
Displays a message in the System Shutdown window. A maximum of 127 characters can be used. The message must be enclosed in quotation marks.

-f
Forces any running applications to shut down.

-r
Reboots the PC.

Want your Windows Xp to boot Faster ?

Here are the following steps that can help your winxp to boot faster.

Open notepad.exe, type “del c:\windows\prefetch\ntosboot-*.* /q” (without the quotes) & save as “ntosboot.bat” in c:\
From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “gpedit.msc”.
Double click “Windows Settings” under “Computer Configuration” and double click again on “Shutdown” in the right window.
In the new window, click “add”, “Browse”, locate your “ntosboot.bat” file & click “Open”.
Click “OK”, “Apply” & “OK” once again to exit.
From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “devmgmt.msc”.
Double click on “IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers”
Right click on “Primary IDE Channel” and select “Properties”.
Select the “Advanced Settings” tab then on the device or 1 that doesn’t have ‘device type’ greyed out select ‘none’ instead of ‘autodetect’ & click “OK”.
Right click on “Secondary IDE channel”, select “Properties” and repeat step 9.
Reboot your computer.

That’s it. Now your computer will boot faster than usual.

Sometimes it happens that your Windows XP login screen doesn’t come and the system boot’s but doesn’t enter the desktop. There might be some cases when the Windows XP login screen doesn’t come and the system boot’s but doesn’t enter the desktop.

What’s the fault ?

The possible reason is a corrupt kernel32.dll.

How to fix this error?

Boot with the XP CD-ROM.
Select Repair windows option (and not the install windows option, this will reinstall the windows and delete the C:/ data).

A DOS window will come, type these commands carefully…
cd c:/windows/system32 (hit enter)

ren kernel32.dll kernel32.old

cd d:/i386 (hit enter – here d: is CD-ROM Drive)

expand kernel32.dl_ c:/windows/system32 (hit enter – use the underscore with ‘dl_’)
now the message comes ’1 file expanded’
that it, now you can boot the windows without CD, and the logon screen will come.

I have seen many people using pendrives or USB drives, suffering from viruses in their pendrives. One of the most poplular is AUTORUN.INF.

What is autorun.inf ?

AUTORUN.INF Viruses are virus that uses the Autorun feature of Windows to spread itself on computers. This virus makes a copy of the autorun.inf file to the root or main directory of all the drives on your PC, internal and / or external disks, to make the virus runs every time the external disks like pendrives or USB drives were inserted or every time you double-click the drives through the Windows Explorer.

How to remove or block autorun.inf virus ?

For this purpose, you can download a software called “USB Disk Security”. This will automatically detecc virus whenever you insert pendrive and more importantly it will remove your virus as well.

Preventing AUTORUN.INF virus manually

The following are just generic instructions and some of the steps might not be applicable to some virus infections that uses autorun.inf.

The method is to create an AUTORUN.INF folder on the root directories (main directory usually represented by backslash symbol \ ) . You can do this via Windows Explorer or Command Prompt but I will recommend the method via Command Prompt.

To run command prompt, click Start then Run or press the key combination: Winkey + R

Type CMD then press enter. This will open the black and white environment.

On the prompt, type MD C:\AUTORUN.INF then press enter key.

Repeat this procedure to other hard drives and USB drives. Just replace the C letter from the command with the appropriate drive letter of each storage device.
