Sometimes it happens that your Windows XP login screen doesn’t come and the system boot’s but doesn’t enter the desktop. There might be some cases when the Windows XP login screen doesn’t come and the system boot’s but doesn’t enter the desktop.
What’s the fault ?
The possible reason is a corrupt kernel32.dll.
How to fix this error?
- Boot with the XP CD-ROM.
- Select Repair windows option (and not the install windows option, this will reinstall the windows and delete the C:/ data).
A DOS window will come, type these commands carefully…
cd c:/windows/system32 (hit enter)
ren kernel32.dll kernel32.old
cd d:/i386 (hit enter – here d: is CD-ROM Drive)
expand kernel32.dl_ c:/windows/system32 (hit enter – use the underscore with ‘dl_’)
now the message comes ’1 file expanded’
that it, now you can boot the windows without CD, and the logon screen will come.
